What to do when you have ZERO motivation

Who else is struggling working from home?

Last week I found it so difficult to get motivated some days. I miss my coworkers and I miss having a designated office space.

I would have charting I needed to get caught up on along with so many other projects and tasks on the go and yet, the motivation to get working on those was nowhere to be found.

I remembered reading somewhere that you should set a timer for 15 minutes if you wanted to get work done. But even 15 minutes seemed TOO BIG. Instead, I set a timer for 5 minutes to work on one of the simplest tasks on my list. Before I knew it, my timer went off and I was in a groove.

I’ve also used this strategy for working out. It can be really challenging to get a workout in without my gym and my gym friends to motivate me. This is especially true on days when I’ve been at my computer all day and haven’t left my apartment. And this is coming from someone that ADORES working out!

So again, I set the timer for 5 minutes. During this time I do a mix of stretching and some bodyweight movements (e.g. squats, lunges, push-ups). Usually, by the end of the 5 minutes, I’ve built up enough movement inertia to continue with a little work-out. And I always feel so much better!

It doesn’t always work, but if you’re struggling to get started - on anything - give yourself 5 minutes. You might just surprise yourself.
